Summer Ice Cream Tour

Anytime I am craving something sweet my number 1 go to is ice cream. Lucky for me, ice cream has become a huge trend this summer in New York City. From soft serve to vegan sundaes, I have indulged in some very delicious and unique concepts.

1. Taiyaki NYC – If You Want Insta-worthy Ice Cream

Unicorns, Matcha, Black sesame oh my! Taiyaki has made a name for itself for their picturesque swirls and fish-shaped waffle cones. Taiyaki is actually the Japanese name for the fish shaped cake that is typically filled with red bean. This flavor is just as magical as it looks!  The vanilla and strawberry soft serve are topped with magic sprinkles and fondant ears and horn. The ice cream shop is located right on Canal St. and lines for the inventive treats can usually go up to an hour wait (so worth it).

2. Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream – If You Need Vegan Options

Van Leeuwen has always been a staple for me in NY. They began with their sunny yellow ice cream truck and now have over 5 brick and mortar locations! What really surprised me is not only is their traditional ice cream made with all natural ingredients, but they offer an extensive vegan menu. I have to say, their vegan options are actually better tasting! Whether you are going on a date or just want to treat your self, their Classic Sundae is 3 scoops of ice cream (can be replaced with vegan) candied walnuts, whipped cream, hot fudge and a cherry on top (I always ask for extra)!

3. Mr.Dips at the William Vale – If You Want Soft Serve With a View

If you want the best view of the Manhattan sky line as you cool off with some ice cream on a hot summers day, the William Vale is the place to be. The hottest luxury hotel in Williamsburg has an outdoor promenade with a retrofitted 1974 Airstream that serves Burgers, fries, and dairy dips that are seasonal. It made me reminisce of when I was younger and my parents would take me to Dairy Queen. The Berry Gibbs below is boozy strawberry, vanilla wafer, whipped cream.

4. Kith Treats – If You Are a Hype Beast

As you walk by Kith, you might notice the long lines of eager shoppers. But it’s not for the ice cream, this sneaker head haven has also opened a cereal bar as you admire the latest shoe drop. Don’t think they have your favorite cereal? The menu includes 23 options of cereal, 4 milk options, and 22 assorted toppings to create your favorite ice cream swirl or custom cereal combos. Your customer cereal also comes in a limited edition Kith box for a whopping $8.

5. Dulcinea Churros & Co.– If You Can’t Decide Between Churros or Ice Cream

Last but not least is ice cream that combines salty, sweet, hot and cold. Behold, the churrowich from Dulcinea. Located in the new and bustling DeKalb Street Market food hall, this dessert is the perfect way to end your food tour. The warm handmade Chcurros sandwich a heaping scoop of salted caramel ice cream, hot fudge, and are sprinkled with powdered sugar. It is absolutely rich in flavor and I would recommend probably splitting it.

I know we only have less than 3 weeks of summer left, but that doesn’t mean these cool treats will disappear forever! Check out the links above and stay updated on seasonal flavors because as much as I love ice cream in the summer, it is absolutely a year round delight.

Tastefully yours,
